New photos have been released of the Cross River Rail project, as it was confirmed a milestone had been reached.
Posting to her Instagram of works inside the tunnel, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed on Monday, “we’ve finished laying all the tracks in both tunnels”.
Transport Minister Mark Bailey said this year the project had come to life and applauded the effort of the workers involved.
“To now have tracks installed in all sections of Cross River Rail’s twin tunnels – which will become the arteries of our new rail network – is incredibly exciting, and means this transformational project is yet another step closer to reality,” Mr Bailey said.
“This is a complex mega project spanning 17 worksites involving new tunnels, new stations and a new signalling system, which all need to knit back into an existing rail network.”
The announcement comes months after Mr Bailey confirmed the start of services would be pushed back from the end of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, and cost taxpayers an extra $960 million.
