A child has suffered facial injuries after being struck by a vehicle north of Brisbane on Sunday.

The 11-year-old girl was hit by a slow-moving vehicle on Appleby Rd, Stafford Heights around 11.30am.

The incident occurred outside Stafford Heights Baptist Church.

The girl’s father, T Sui Dun, said his daughter had dropped his hand and the car had hit her.

“My daughter left my hands and the car has hit her. I dont know what happened,” Mr Dun said.

“Somebody called for the ambulance. We are much better now.

“She is in the hospital, she is alright. Her right jaw has scars, grazes.”

Mr Dun said he and his family were going for a day at church when the accident occured.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the girl was treated for facial injuries at the scene before being transported in a stable condition to the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Stafford Heights Baptist Church Pastor Cungbik Kingbawl, also known as ‘KB’, said the family were crossing the road to attend the midday Brisbane Chin Church service.

“So they planned to come to the church, they were on the way,” Mr Kingbawl said.

Pointing to the island in the middle of Appleby Rd, Mr Kingbawl said the incident was close to home.

“They were crossing the road here, I came there and I saw the driver,” he said.

“Everything is okay but her leg and face are scratched. We are praying for the family especially after that.”

According to the Stafford Heights Baptist Church’s website, on Sundays there are “congregations of the Chin people from Myanmar, as well as a Sudanese congregation meeting in our facilities”.

“The year 2006 was a significant one for SHBC in that it brought into our midst quite a number of people from different cultures. These had been resettled into Brisbane as refugees,” the website said.

It’s understood the driver of the vehicle had remained at the scene for a short time but left prior to emergency services attending.

They gave their phone number to people at the scene.

A Queensland Police spokesman said investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash.
