Hundreds of union-aligned public servants have gathered outside Queensland’s ‘Tower of Power’ at 1 William St in the Brisbane CBD calling for the state government to negotiate a fair pay increase.
CFMEU Queensland assistant secretary Kane Lowth said the issues at the rally were separate to the gripes aired at the controversial protest at the Transport and Main Roads building on Mary St last week.
Mr Lowth said the enterprise bargaining agreements of hundreds of public servants, including those that maintained hospitals and school, expired on Thursday and the government was yet to come to them with a framework for negotiations.
And with cost of living increases far surpassing wage growth, he said workers couldn’t afford to be made to wait up to 13 months— as had happened recently— for a pay rise.
He estimated a crowd size of four hundred.
According to Mr Lowth similar rallies are being held in Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns today.
