Three alleged members of little-known bikie gang The Iron Horsemen have been charged over a violent assault at a popular Gold Coast cafe.

Officers from the bikie-busting Taskforce Maxima arrested a 39-year-old at a North Ipswich home on Wednesday over the assault at Canungra’s Outpost Cafe last September.

He was charged with affray, possessing knuckle dusters and drugs and wearing banned bikie gang paraphernalia in public.

A 49-year-old Nerang man and a 34-year-old Canungra man have also been charged with assault and other offences.

Police allege the trio were among a group of seven who approached two men in the cafe before punching one of them and fleeing.

The 66-year-old victim received serious facial injuries.

The 39-year-old alleged bikie from North Ipswich will face Southport Magistrates Court in May.

It is understood the incident was sparked by a road incident that occurred less than an hour earlier on Beaudesert Nerang Rd.

After the verbal altercation, the 66-year-old victim and his son rode their bikes to the Outpost Cafe for breakfast.

In footage released by police, one of the alleged bikies can be seen punching the father twice in the face before he falls and slumps over a chair.

The Courier-Mail was told that the father, who was retired and has cancer, was taken to hospital with a brain haemorrhage.

The Iron Horsemen were formed in Ohio in the mid-1960s and have chapters worldwide.

They were one of the gangs declared criminal organisations by the Newman Government in its controversial 2013 bikie crackdown.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said the footage showed the 66-year-old man was “clearly knocked out”.

“The victim in this case is an elderly gentleman just out on a ride...and seven of them have gone in, which you can see from the vision, and have (allegedly) surrounded them and randomly punched him,” he said.

Supt Smith said the Organised Crime Gangs Group was only aware of up to a dozen active members of The Iron Horsemen in Queensland.

“This is the first instance that we know of in Queensland (allegedly) involving them,” Supt Smith said.

Supt Smith urged anybody with vision of the road incident or phone footage of the assault to come forward.

Speaking generally he said: “And the community can be assured that we will continue to target (gangs) and we’ll put them before the courts and seek justice on behalf of the victims.
