A crime scene has been declared at a home in Crestmead after a suspicious fire

A man has been arrested and a crime scene has been declared after a suspicious blaze tore through a property south of Brisbane early on Thursday morning.

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man after a suspicious blaze broke out at a home south of Brisbane on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the property at Price Ct in Crestmead at 1.30am on Thursday where they found the home well alight.

The roof of the house has caved in and the inside of the property is significantly damaged, with firefighters spending several hours trying to contain the blaze.

The occupants were able to safely flee the residence and no one was physically injured.

A crime scene was declared while investigators determine the cause of the fire.

A 24-year-old man, who was taken into custody at Southport, is assisting police with their inquiries.

It is understood a woman who witnessed the blaze is also assisting police.

Anyone with information, or vision that could assist investigations, is urged to contact police.

Investigations remain ongoing.
