Cairns real estate: Post-pandemic ‘awakening’ leads buyers to leafy Redlynch

An unprecedented demand for property has hit one particular Cairns suburb as families review lifestyle priorities in the wake of a global pandemic.

FAMILIES seeking space and a sense of freedom are looking to Redlynch, considered one of the most appealing suburbs in Cairns.

Cairns Property Office real estate agent Debbie North said Redlynch was regarded as one of the most liveable and best serviced areas in Cairns.

“Not only is it very scenic but in recent years, the infrastructure that has been provided has made it very attractive particularly to professional families, retirees and even some investors,” she said.

“The pandemic has caused many people to reassess their way of life and have a type of existential awakening.”

“The lifestyle Redlynch offers, particularly with the larger blocks or acreages, allows buyers to appreciate a sense of space and freedom that they don’t feel they have in cities on small suburban blocks.”

Ms North said she had 1222 buyers registered who were seeking prestige property in Redlynch – and most properties on large blocks were selling for well over $1m.

“What’s also interesting is that the buyers, although they’re purchasing well over a million, are not buying them as trophy homes,” Ms North said.

“They’re buying them as a way of life and quite often, they may still need some updating compared to other properties at the prestige end of the market.

“Buyers are also looking at the value of such large parcels of land in the fast growing suburb and while they’re not intending to sell for a long time, most people have a 15-year plan at least, they do see these properties as a very solid investment in the long term as well.”

Ms North said Redlynch homes on large blocks and acreage were sometimes held for 25 years or more.

“So buyers are very keen to move quickly when the right property comes up because sometimes they’ve been on my database two-three years or more,” she said.
