LINDISFARNE’s Erin Wiss is leading the country in providing a service which empowers women fighting cancer.
For the past two years she has given workshops to help women with cancer look and feel good again by educating them on fashion and styling.
After discovering there was no program in Australia offering such services, she approached the Cancer Council Tasmania with her idea.
Her empathy towards these women comes from her own family health issues.
Erin is full-time carer to twin five-year-old girls, Jade and Eve, who both have cerebral palsy.
She said the aim of her workshops was to give a distraction from the dark cloud of cancer.
“It’s an educational and fun workshop, a distraction from the trials and tribulations from having a cancer diagnosis,” Erin said.
“We’re not ignoring it but for two hours we’re not thinking about it. We share stories of fashion experiences in the past and I get them starting to think about who they are and how they want to present themselves when they step out the door.”
Erin’s goal is to expand the program nationally and she has been nominated for a Pride of Australia Medal in the community spirit category.
“I’m very proud of what I do and it’s lovely to receive some kind of acknowledgment,” she said.
