Mr Seidel, who held the shadow health portfolio, announced his resignation in August last year, saying he was fed up with infighting and leaks from within the party.

In August he said he could not work in Labor’s “toxic environment”.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission on Monday revealed the by-election to fill the seat would be held alongside the periodic elections for the seats of Elwick and McIntyre.

The Legislative Council will return on March 4, while polling day for the three seats will be held on May 7.
