Tasmanian state election: Lara Giddings and baby Natasha star at declaration of polls

PREMIER Will Hodgman, Greens Leader Cassy O’Connor and a Labor newcomer were among the 10 successful Tasmanian election candidates to be sworn in at Declaration of the Polls ceremonies in Denison and Franklin on Monday.
Watching on was a voter of the future, little Natasha Rose Magill, the almost three-month-old daughter of retiring Labor politician and Tasmania’s first female premier Lara Giddings and her partner Ian Magill.
Tasmania made history this election, with more women being elected than men to take a seat in the Parliament.

Of the five Denison candidates sworn in, four were women.
Labor’s Scott Bacon joined Labor newcomer Ella Haddad, experienced Liberal Elise Archer, new Liberal member and former Hobart Mayor Sue Hickey and Ms O’Connor.
In Franklin, the gender balance was three to two with Premier Will Hodgman formally declared along with Jacquie Petrusma, Labor’s David O’Byrne and Alison Standen and Rosalie Woodruff from the Greens.
The successful candidates in Braddon, Bass and Lyons attended their ceremonies on Friday.
Following the declarations, the writs for all five Tasmanian electoral divisions were returned to Her Excellency the Governor, Kate Warner.
