Sophie Lehmann says she will bring corporate know how to politics

The Jacqui Lambie Network’s Braddon candidate says she can bring her professional knack of getting things done to achieve results for the marginalised in Tasmania’s North West.

A PROJECT manager from Ulverstone has thrown her hat in the ring as a Jacqui Lambie Network candidate in the electorate of Braddon in the upcoming Federal Election.

Sophie Lehmann, 44, says she can bring her corporate know-how and knack for getting things done to the role if successful.

“This is my first time standing for election of any kind,” Ms Lehmann said.

“I have admired Jacqui Lambie for a long time and also want to stand up for those without a voice so when she was seeking candidates I decided to approach her.

“In the corporate world it is my job to get things done. Instead of completing jobs on time, I will be getting things done for the people of Braddon.

“I have had to stand up to big guys in my job and plan to do so in Canberra if elected.”

She will be running against incumbent Liberal Braddon MP Gavin Pearce, Labor’s Chris Lynch and independent Craig Garland and others yet to be announced.

The 2022 Australian federal election must be held on, or before, May 21 - after the Morrison government hands down an early budget on March 29.

While it has not yet been called,  the unofficial election campaign has already begun with both Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Labor Leader Anthony Albansese making promises as they visit various electorates.

Ms Lehmann said there was a lot of inequality in the world and in her own home region.

“Power has trumped humanity. I want everyone to have the same opportunities.”

She said her platform was simple - wanting to push and support mental health issues, safety for women and to help struggling businesses succeed and employ locals.

“If people continue to vote for the big parties they will continue to get the same results. It is time for change. In the corporate world you are judged on what you get done and it should be the same in politics.

“Braddon needs someone to fight for it not for Labor or Liberal.”

Ms Lehmann and Senator Lambie are already hitting the streets talking to people to get a feel for the issues that are important to them.

Ms Lehmann’s website has been launched and voters can check it out at sophieforbraddon.com
