THE Salvation Army’s Street Team drug and alcohol program will continue in Hobart in 2018 with a further $110,000 in State Government funding.

The program provides late-night support to those at risk of harm from alcohol or drug misuse in the Salamanca and Waterfront areas.

“The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting vulnerable Tasmanians and organisations like the Salvation Army who help give those in need a hand-up,” Police Minister Rene Hidding said.

The funding would allow the program to also be trialled in Launceston, Mr Hidding said.

Teams of trained volunteers assist those at risk of harm, or of causing harm, on Friday and Saturday nights between 10.30pm and 3am.
