PREMIER Peter Gutwein’s top media adviser has quit suddenly to take a job with the Property Council of Australia.
Rebecca Ellston will replace former Labor MP Brian Wightman as the Tasmanian executive director for the Tasmanian branch of the council.
Mr Wightman has taken a job as state manager with the Australian Education Union.
Ms Ellston most recently worked as the senior media adviser for Tasmanian Premier, and
before that worked for the Attorney-General’s office and as a reporter for WIN News.
Mr Gutwein thanked Ms Ellston for her contribution, which included managing a marathon series of around 70 daily press conferences at the height of the pandemic.
“We wish Rebecca all the best with her new role which is a wonderful opportunity for her.
I would also like to thank her for all her hard work during her time with the Tasmanian Government,” he said.
Property Council Chief Executive Ken Morrison said Ms Ellston was the right person to lead the organisation in Tasmania, at a time when the state is focused on a construction-led recovery and building its way out of the pandemic.
“We are thrilled that such an experienced communications professional and passionate advocate for Tasmania as Rebecca will be joining the Property Council’s executive team at a time when the state is accelerating its social and economic recovery.” Mr Morrison said.
