Pauline Hanson arrives for a week’s compaigning in Tasmania as she chases votes

PAULINE Hanson’s One Nation is eyeing tilts at all five Lower House seats in Tasmania at the upcoming federal election and expects to announce candidates this month.

Senator Hanson began a week of campaigning in Tasmania Monday alongside her party’s lead Senate candidate, Matthew Stephen.

The pair will travel to Smithton on Tuesday, where they plan to meet seafood exporters Redrock Lobster and the operator of a large dairy farm.

The One Nation leader listed drug addiction among key issues she wanted to address in Tasmania, along with support for the forestry and dairy industries.

She criticised Labor, which last month promised to have the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigate a way to set up a floor price on milk, for failing to support her own previous efforts to re-regulate the industry.

Senator Hanson said she had taken confidence from the previous federal election, when the party came close to winning Tasmania’s last Senate berth, which went to the Greens’ Nick McKim.

Asked if she had a specific target this time, she said: “I want to see Matthew get elected.”

Mr Stephen, who contested the Queensland seat of Longman at a by-election last year and recently relocated to Tasmania, said the Federal Government should include Bass Strait shipping within the national highway system to cut down freight costs.

Senator Hanson’s chief of staff James Ashby said the party was close to naming candidates in Tasmania.

‘There has been a lot of interest (but) it’s about making sure you get the right people for those positions,” Mr Ashby said.
