Michael Kent dumped as Glamorgan-Spring Bay Mayor

GLAMORGAN-SPRING Bay Mayor Michael Kent has been ousted from the top job.

As of Tuesday night, Cr Kent was in last place having polled only 17 per cent on the primary vote.

Cr Kent has been a vocal supporter of the controversial Cambria Green development.

Councillor Debbie Wisby narrowly leads the tight race with 29 per cent followed by Keith Breheny on 27 per cent and Cheryl Arnol on 25 per cent.

Launceston remains a two-horse race with Mayor Albert Van Zetten leading the field of eight on 39 per cent with Alderman Janie Finlay sitting on 29 per cent after primary votes were counted.

Southern Midlands will come down to preferences with Mayor Tony Bisdee leading on 36 per cent and Deputy Mayor Alex Green on 29 per cent.

It’s been a tightly fought contest in the Derwent Valley with only 25 votes separating Paul Damien Belcher and second-placed Ben Shaw with a recount likely.

Northern Midlands Councillor Mary Knowles has been elected Mayor ahead of Dick Adams after preference votes were counted.

Voting will continue for many councils on Wednesday from 9am.
