SUPPORT for the Will Hodgman-led Government remains steady, new polling shows.

The latest EMRS polling figures released today show support for the Liberal Party at 46 per cent — slightly down from 48 per cent in November 2015.

The Labor Party saw a slight boost in support to 27 per cent from 25 per cent in November.

Opposition leader Bryan Green also improved by 2 per cent off the back off a 19 per cent preferred Premier rating in November — his worst number since taking on the leadership.

Mr Hodgman saw a 4 per cent drop in popularity from November.

EMRS Chief Operations Director Samuel Paske said the latest poll of 1000 Tasmanians was

completed between February 26 and March 1 and did not show significant movement in voter support during the last quarter.

“There have been no substantial gains or losses in support for any of the major parties since

our last poll in November 2015,” Mr Paske said.

“However the last 12 months have been a period of recovery for the Government after the first year of their term had seen losses to the Labor Party.

“At the midway point in the current Government’s term in office, there remains a significant difference of 19 points in support between the two major parties.”

Mr Hodgman continues to have the highest level of support as preferred Premier, with 52 per cent nominating him as their favoured leader.

Mr Paske said Bryan Green was nominated as the preferred option by 21 per cent of those polled, while the remaining 27 per cent of Tasmanians surveyed were unable to choose between the two.

“Premier Hodgman clearly and consistently has the highest level of public support as the preferred candidate for Premier and, although his support decreased by 4 points in the last quarter, it was up by 4 points from one year ago in February 2015,” he said.

“In the latest polling, again fewer Tasmanians nominated Bryan Green as their preferred

Premier than were undecided.”
