Liberals hold strong lead in opinion polling: EMRS

THE State Government continues to enjoy strong support two months after the election, the latest EMRS opinion poll has found.

Support for the Liberal Party was running one per cent higher than the last pre-election opinion poll at 47 per cent, while the Labor Party was down four percentage points to 30 per cent support and the Greens 14 per cent — a two per cent rise.

The Liberals received just over 50 per cent of primary votes at the March State Election, Labor 32 per cent and the Greens 10 per cent.

Premier Will Hodgman remains preferred Premier at 47 per cent, up one percentage point, while 41 per cent of voters nominated Labor leader Rebecca White as their choice — a result unchanged from the previous poll.

“These numbers confirm that the Government has maintained the high levels of support

recorded in February 2018 and the March Election in the course of the year to date,” said EMRS chief operations director Samuel Paske .

“The Labor opposition vote currently sits at 30 per cent and at no stage during the previous

term did it reach 35 per cent support.

“Despite gaining three seats in the election, one would have to go back to May 2009 for the last time Labor led the Liberal Party in an EMRS poll.”

The telephone poll of 1000 Tasmanian voters was conducted between May 7 to 10 and has a 3.1 per cent margin of error.
