PRIME Minister Scott Morrison has refused to budge on awarding Tasmanian war hero Teddy Sheean the nation’s highest military honour, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Guy Barnett says.
Mr Barnett said he held talks with Mr Morrison this week asking him to reconsider his denial of the Victoria Cross to Teddy Sheean, who died during WWII after he strapped himself to a ship cannon and fired at attacking enemy planes.

Mr Morrison’s rejection followed the unanimous decision of a defence honours and awards tribunal to award Sheean the VC.
“The bottom line is, the discussions [to award Sheean the VC] are ongoing and I say thank you to the Prime Minister for that opportunity,” he said.
“On the other hand it’s very clear the position hasn’t changed from the Prime Minister in terms of his decision but he has taken on board some of the things I’ve shared with him.”
