HOBART’S new Deputy Mayor Peter Sexton is off on an overseas trip to Europe which will cost ratepayers thousands of dollars.

ALDERMAN and newly elected Hobart Deputy Mayor Peter Sexton will head to London on a $10,000 ratepayer funded trip for a three-day conference.
The conference, called Tangible — Intangible Heritage — Design, social and cultural critiques on the past, present and the future, explores how heritage cities can maintain their character yet still meet demands of growth and development.

Ald Sexton said the trip was approved by Hobart City Council last year as part of his professional development and capped at $10,000 in accordance with the Aldermanic Development and Support Policy.

“My decision to attend this conference is based upon the current challenges faced by the Hobart City Council in managing development and heritage in a period of rapid change,” he said.
The conference will be held from June 13-15.
Ald Sexton said he would pay out of his own pocket to visit other heritage cities in Europe after the conference finishes.
