THE four Greater Hobart councils have each committed millions of dollars to a massive infrastructure expenditure program as part of the Hobart City Deal.
On Monday night, Hobart, Clarence, Glenorchy and Kingborough councils agreed in principle to sign up to the Greater Hobart City Deal.
The councils also endorsed a motion to support the Greater Hobart Act 2018 and will write to the State Growth Minister to comment on the draft Bill.
Kingborough Mayor Dean Winter said Kingborough had committed $11 million to the Greater Hobart City Deal to invest in major upgrades of the Channel Highway and surrounding pathways into central Kingston.
“The pressure is now on the state and federal governments to invest in our future,” he said.
Glenorchy Mayor Kristie Johnston said Glenorchy would invest about $11 million in total and was keen to see the Federal Government also put its dollars on the table towards a light rail corridor and affordable housing.
Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the council voted to commit $7 million for new transport infrastructure, $1 million for smarter cities initiatives and $15 million towards urban renewal projects.
