The name of the electorate, which is centred on Hobart, has been changed after a concerted push to recognise the role played by Andrew Inglis Clark

Australian Electoral Commission spokesman Dennis Cowdroy said the change was part of a series of changes to Tasmanian electorates, which included boundary changes to ensure elections remained fair.

“The renaming of the Division of Denison to Clark is in recognition of the contribution Andrew Inglis Clark (1848—1907) made to Australia’s political and legal systems,” he said.

The name change and the boundary changes will apply from the first federal election held after November 14.

The incumbent federal member for Denison — soon to be Clark — is independent Andrew Wilkie.
