The 2019-20 Tasmanian Budget at a glance:
Government revenue: $6.4 billion, up 1.6 per cent.
Government expenditure: $6.3 billion, up 0.8 per cent.
Predicted surplus: $57.2 million.
Infrastructure spending: $723 million.
Growth: 2.75 per cent.
Unemployment: 6.25 per cent.
Consumer price index: 2.25 per cent.
Highlights: Infrastructure spending: $1.6 billion on roads and bridges, $352 million on hospitals and health, $194 million on schools and $212 million on housing and human services.
Key measures:
- 0.75 per cent efficiency dividend imposed on the public sector and a revamp of the State Service Act.
- 300 more nurses, 60 more doctors and 40 more allied health professionals for the Royal Hobart Hospital.
- $1.6 billion in spending for transport infrastructure, including $294 million towards the new Bridgewater Bridge, $292 million for road upgrades and $300 million for rail infrastructure.
- 15 percentage point of consumption tax to be introduced on online gambling from 2020.
- $91m for Stage 2 of the Royal Hobart Hospital development.
- Funding to improve traffic in Hobart, Launceston and the Tamar Valley
- $2.75 million to boost defence industries,
- $16 million for the West Coast Wilderness Railway.
