Beloved Australian cook, artist, author and TV presenter Poh Ling Yeow has been unveiled as the Territory’s newest ambassador, with her main objective to boost tourism in the NT.
Yeow, who was the runner-up in the first season of MasterChef Australia, also starred in the eighth season of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! and appeared as a celebrity contestant on Lego Masters Australia, steps into the role after featuring on the cover of The Australian Women’s Weekly Christmas 2024 issue.
Her front-cover – a milestone moment as the magazine’s first Outback Christmas cover – featured the stunning landscapes of Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve and Simpsons Gap in West MacDonnell, 18km west of Alice Springs.
In her new role, Yeow will spotlight the Territory’s landscape, culture, food and artistic heritage through social media and other platforms with the goal of inspiring travellers.
“As someone who adores travel, learning, and finding inspiration in new places, the NT is a dream destination”, Yeow said.
“From the breathtaking Top End to the awe-inspiring Red Centre, I’ve fallen in love with it all; and I couldn’t be prouder to showcase everything this extraordinary place has to offer.”
Known for her love of food, art, travel and culture, Yeow has travelled to some of the Territory’s most iconic destinations including Litchfield National Park, Finniss River Lodge and Darwin.
Her journey also led her to the Red Centre, where she visited Alice Springs, Hermannsburg, Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole and Uluru National Park.
Yeow said it was a privilege to take part in the Territory’s culture.
“It was such a privilege to spend time on Country with some of the Western Arrernte ceramists and artists from Hermannsburg Potters.”
“They shared some of their amazing craft with me and allowed me to get my hands dirty shaping a pot with clay that was dug from the land on which we sat.”
“We were on the edge of the Finke Riverbed with a beautiful escarpment behind us and it felt magical to sit quietly and have they share their stories as we painted and worked with our hands.”
