An Australian man who survived the Cambridgeshire train stabbing recalls looking the knife-wielding attacker in the face during “terrifying” ordeal.

Vale centenarian Colin Heard (1924- 2025) Darwinâs last WW2 veteran.Originally from South Australia, Colin was selected by the RAAF to fly P-40 Kittyhawks at age 19 in World War 2. He flew with 78 Squadron in 1943 and 1944 during its operations in New Guinea and the Dutch East Indies. Their fighters were transported by sea, were made operational and attacked Japanese ships and assisted American forces in the capture of Japanese bases on the island of New Britain. Colin survived the loss of his aircraft, when its engine caught fire after a strafing run, sinking ten seconds after he ditched in the ocean. He will be remembered by his family and friends and the veteran community, Rest in Peace Colin.
