Off the back of a gruelling Olympic cycle Australian gymnastics sweetheart Ruby Pass is ready to pull on her leotard for another year of competition, starting at the Gold Coast on Thursday.
Ms Pass competed in her first Olympics in Paris last year, and will take part in her first big competition since then in the Australian Gymnastics Championships at the Sports and Leisure Centre in Carrara on July 3 and 5.
The competition is an opportunity for the best of the best Australian gymnasts to qualify for the World Cup and World Championships later in the year, Gymnastics Australia spokeswoman Kirrilee Torney said.
“This competition is incredibly important,” Ms Torney said.
“They get to compete in front of family and friends, and especially since this is the first event since the Olympics, it’s their chance to thank everyone and to show everyone what got them to the Games.”
Ms Pass said she was “super excited” for the competition, which will be a chance to compete among friends and closer to home.
“I’m actually originally from New South Wales so most of my family is there, but I’m so grateful because my dad’s come up and my Pa, who’s like my biggest supporter, he loves watching gymnastics, so really grateful for that,” she said.
“I am just getting back into it so I’m not expecting Olympic-ready level right now, but hopefully it’ll be a good preparation for Worlds.”
Ms Pass was just 17 in Paris, and managed to finish 13th overall, in a field populated by the likes of Simone Biles.
