Updated, October 3 - 8.45am: A 14-year-old boy has been recaptured after he escaped police custody on Wednesday afternoon.

An NT Police spokesperson said the teen was found shortly before 8.30am Thursday.

The spokesperson said Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit had found the boy in Malak.

It comes after police on Wednesday warned the public “not to approach him”.

”Police would like to thank the public for their assistance,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier, October 3: A 14-year-old boy has escaped police custody and was last seen in Malak, officers say.

An NT Police spokesperson said the teen was spotted near a service station on Holzerland St at 1.25pm before fleeing the area.

The spokesperson said the boy had been heading in the direction of Fawcett Court.

They said Strike Force Trident, the Dog Operations Unit, and general duties officers had spotted him multiple times and established a cordon, but he still avoided being captured.

“He is described as being Aboriginal in appearance, 150cm tall, with a slim build,” the spokesperson said.

“Police do not believe he poses a risk to the public but advise people not to approach him.”

The spokesperson urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 444 quoting reference number NTP2400098939.
