A man in his 20s has died after being trapped beneath a forklift at an industrial site in Prestons in Sydney’s southwest.

A man has died after becoming trapped beneath a forklift at a workplace in Sydney’s southwest on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to a business on Powdrill Rd in Prestons shortly before 5.40am following reports of a workplace incident.

Officers arrived to find the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, critically injured and pinned under the heavy machinery.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he died from his injuries a short time later. He has not yet been formally identified.

A crime scene was established and detectives have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident has been referred to SafeWork NSW.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
