A southwest Sydney suburb will soon receive three new educational facilities including a brand new high school, making it the second public high school to exist in the region.
It comes as the government also announced construction of a brand new primary school and preschool for residents in Wilton.
All three facilities are set to be co-located at 200 Fairway Drive, Wilton with the primary school to open Term 1 of 2027.
The primary school will feature modern classrooms as well as a library, hall, covered outdoor learning area (COLA), administration and staff areas and support learning classrooms.
The new public preschool will offer 60 fee-free places for local children, while the new high school is expected to commence its first intake in 2027.
The new high school will be the second public high school to open in the Wollondilly region.
Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan said: “This is an amazing outcome for the community of Wollondilly Shire who have waited for more than a generation for the promised second high school.”
“I thank the Government for listening to my concerns and for delivering for the Wollondilly
community. It is fantastic that we finally have the education facilities we deserve with new
schools, primary and secondary to be delivered for my existing community along with the new
residents that are choosing Wollondilly as their forever home.”
The project is part of the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to deliver 100 new public preschools across NSW by 2027.
The facilities will be delivered under the 2024-25 Budget’s $3.6bn funding for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney and $1.4 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said: “We’ve heard the concerns from the local community that a second public high school is needed for the region after years of neglect.”
“This investment will allow Wilton families to be educated in their own local community from preschool right through to Year 12.”
Wilton Public School principal Debra Gray said as the community continued to grow, so did the demand for high quality education facilities.
“The construction of these schools will ease pressure on existing schools whilst ensuring that every child has access to the best possible learning environments which will provide much needed space, modern facilities and new opportunities for students to thrive,” she said.
