A desperate almost three month search for Jayden Harwood, 20, came to a tragic end on Saturday when police and State Emergency Service volunteers found his body in long grass at Minto, south of Sydney.

Until that moment, his distraught mother Alana Wallace was holding onto hope he would turn up alive, and that he’d just taken time out from the world, went he went for a walk on March 1, and was never seen again.

Police have told Ms Wallace they don’t think Mr Harwood’s death is suspicious or that there has been any foul play, but she’s not convinced.

“They are trying to tell me my baby died from misadventure, but it makes no sense...someone hurt him and I want them found,” Ms Wallace said.

The day he was last seen alive, the father-of-two and his girlfriend travelled from their home in Newcastle to Ingleburn to visit some of her relatives.

Sometime during the visit, Ms Wallace said her son went for a walk on his own to escape a “family disagreement”.

In a bizarre twist, Ms Wallace received a phone call that afternoon from Mr Harwood, using a stranger’s phone, claiming he’d been randomly assaulted while he was out walking.

“I do think he’d been assaulted, that I do believe...but what happened next, someone knows more than they’re letting on,” she said.

“For two-and-a-half months I’ve searched for my baby boy...that paddock he was found in, I’ve been there personally to put up flyers, like just a month ago, he wasn’t there.”

NSW Police said Mr Harwood’s cause of death would be determined by the Coroner when a post mortem is conducted this week, but that it did not appear to be suspicious.

Ms Wallace said Mr Harwood suffered from various medical conditions including autism and bipolar disorder, but she said it didn’t explain how he would end up in a paddock.

“Someone hurt my baby, I know they did,” Ms Wallace said through tears.

Since he vanished, wild theories have emerged about what may have happened to the young dad, including a social media page which claims it will “expose the dogs” believed to be behind Mr Harwood’s disappearance.

“How come he wasn’t reported missing for like two days...someone’s covering up what they (sic) done to him,” one post read.

“The truth will come out,” another post read.

In a statement, police said Strike Force Devon had been set up to investigate the discovery of Mr Harwood’s body.

“The remains have been seized and will undergo a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Investigations under Strike Force Devon continue,” the statement said.
