Shocking footage shows arsonist setting himself on fire inside Burwood salon

Police have released dramatic CCTV footage which shows an arsonist accidentally lighting himself on fire, before running away, engulfed in flames.

Police have released dramatic CCTV footage which shows an arsonist lighting himself on fire, before running away engulfed in flames, as they appeal for information into a suspicious fire at a salon in Sydney’s inner-west last month.

The freshly released CCTV footage by police of the scene in the early hours of June 13th, shows two men wearing hoods breaking into the closed salon and spreading what appears to be a flammable liquid around the shop on Burwood Road in Burwood.

The vision then shows a man in a black jumper, slipping over the wet liquid - before leaving the business, and away from the scene.

The other man - dressed in an orange hi-viz jumper - is seen finishing spreading the accelerant, before igniting the fire, causing the shop and himself to go up in flames.

That same man is then seen running, while trying to extinguish himself on Nicholl Lane, a short time later.

At around 5am that same morning, emergency services were called to the shop following reports of a fire, with firefighters extinguishing the blaze a short time later.

A residential complex above the shop was evacuated, but fortunately there were no injuries reported, and the shop only sustained minor damage.

The two men are believed to have left the scene before police arrived.

Detectives have released the footage as they try to identify the two men, with anyone with information urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
