Police operation in Beaumont Hills ends after reports of armed person found to involve toy gun
A major police operation in Sydney’s north west was sparked by a man seen walking with a toy gun. It caused several schools to go in to lockdown. The man was spoken to by police and released without charge.
Schools were plunged into lockdown and heavily armed police swarmed a suburb after a person was seen carrying what was ultimately found to be a toy gun through the city’s north west.
Reports of an individual carrying a gunalong suburban streets sparked a major police reaction at Beaumont Hills on Monday morning, as the public was warned to avoid the area.
It all began when police officers were called to Guardian Ave in the Hills suburb shortly before 10.30am, when witnesses reported someone walking along the footpath with what appeared to be a firearm.
Police launched an extensive search of the area and later located the individual, discovering the items were toy guns they had picked up during a local kerbside cleanup.
Several schools within the local area were placed into lockdown as a precaution, sparking concerns among parents, only to be returned to their normal operations after a short period of time.
An image circulated on local social media pages showed a man carrying a toy weapon in Beaumont Hills.
The man spoke with police, and was released without charge.
In a statement, NSW Police said they treated all reports of potential danger seriously and thanked the community for their assistance.
