A major emergency operation is underway in Sydney’s CBD after a car crashed into a power pole, “snapping it in half”.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Elizabeth and Redfern streets in Redfern just after 6pm, following reports of a single car crash.

It is understood eight police cars responded to the incident, with a NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman confirming no live wires were exposed at the scene.

A 33-year-old man was released from the wreck by responding police, before being transferred to hospital in a stable condition.
