The T4 train line has returned to normal early Tuesday morning after facing 10 hours of delays on Monday.
Train cancellations threw the afternoon peak into disarray as problems with power supply rippled across parts of Sydney’s train network.
Commuters were told to find alternate arrangements or use buses.
At 6am on Tuesday Sydney Trains notified customers that the network was “returning to normal”.
The power supply issue was located between Wolli Creek and Hurstville stations in Sydney’s south west and temporarily stopped trains from running on the section of rail.
“Allow extra travel time due to power supply issues between Wolli Creek [and] Sutherland earlier,” Transport for NSW reported on X.
“Trains may stop on platforms or stations for longer than normal. Stops [and] platforms may change at short notice.”
Furious travellers responded with one writing: “Typical and not surprising”, while another was unhappy with mixed messages and communication issues.
“We get that things go wrong, but the fact that Sydney Trains seem unable to communicate clearly when they do makes it much worse,” Steve Whistler said.
Nathan Lo was less understanding: “First day of the f**kin week and u f**k up well done.”
The issues come just weeks after hundreds of commuters were left stranded when an overhead powerline connected with a train’s rooftop in Homebush in May.
