Sydneysiders flocked to Parramatta on Sunday where another successful Let’s Go Greek Festival got under way in the grounds of St Ioannis Greek Orthodox Church at Parramatta.

Vendors sold iconography, jewellery, ceramics and candles while youngsters were treated to donkey rides and visited goats and lambs in the petting zoo.

Crowds descended near the main stage to take in traditional dancing including the Zorba while the huge drawcard – the smorgasbord of Greek fare – did not disappoint.

Souvlaki (the traditional and chocolate variety), barbecued octopus, loukoumades, stuffed olives and halloumi with a twist were devoured by the tens of thousands at the event.

Parramatta MP Andrew Charlton reminded festival-goers Australia’s first olive tree was planted about 200m where they were at Parramatta in 1805 at John Macarthur’s farm.
