A man has been charged with 19 offences after police allegedly uncovered evidence of an elaborate fraud scheme along with a 3D-printed gun, knuckle dusters and methylamphetamine during a raid on a Sydney apartment.
The 36-year-old was arrested at a Pitt St unit shortly before 7.20am on Wednesday following a Raptor Squad probe into firearm manufacturing and large-scale financial deception.
It’s alleged the man fraudulently obtained a $100,000 loan using false documents and defrauded two victims out of more than $85,000 by stealing and selling their shares
Strike Force Commodine was set up in March by the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad to investigate the alleged offending.
The inquiry followed an investigation launched by police on the Central Coast in July last year into reports nearly $50,000 worth of shares had been stolen from a victim’s account.
During Wednesday’s search, police allegedly located a 3D-printed pistol, 3D printing devices, prohibited weapons including knuckle dusters, electronics, documents and a quantity of methylamphetamine.
All items were seized for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Day Street Police Station and later charged with a string of offences including firearm possession, drug possession, identity theft and multiple fraud-related offences.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.
Police will allege in court the man was actively manufacturing illegal weapons and orchestrating a complex fraud network involving false documents and stolen shares.
