Maitland: Police hunt teen after attempted sexual assault of woman in her 80s at Ashtonfield park

Detectives have launched a major manhunt after a woman aged in her 80s was attacked in an attempted sexual assault during her evening walk at a Maitland park.

Detectives are on the hunt to find a teenage boy as they investigate an attempted sexual assault on an elderly woman at a park in Maitland on Monday evening.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police have been told the woman in her 80s was walking in Brooklyn Park at Ashtonfield about 7:20pm when she was knocked to the ground and a male attempted to sexually assault her.

It’s believed the male left on a push scooter before the woman called family who then alerted police.

She was taken to the hospital for treatment following the attack.

Under Strike Force Bosgar, local detectives assisted by the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation into the incident.

Police have released a description of a teenage boy they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He’s described as being aged mid-to-late teens, with a dark complexion, wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts.

Anyone with information, or who may have been in the vicinity of Brooklyn Park between 7pm and 8pm on Monday November 17 and may have information, CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact Maitland Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
