Gunfire erupts at vacant Concord home before suspected getaway car torched in Burwood

The home of Raymond Frangieh was peppered with bullets, soon after a car with its handbrake seemingly left off was seen rolling down a nearby street. Police are probing links between the two incidents.

A convicted cocaine supplier has had his home shot at multiple times overnight with police now on the hunt for the gunmen who fled in a stolen car.

Raymond Frangieh’s home on Davidson Ave at Concord was peppered with bullets about 1am on Thursday – but fortunately he was not home at the time.

It is not the first time a home he owns has been shot at.

Back in September 2003, Frangieh’s home at Merrylands was shot at up to 12 times as part of a dispute with an underworld figure that a few weeks later would result in his innocent father Sayed being shot dead.

Emergency services were called first to the Concord home in the early hours on Thursday.

A neighbour of the Davidson Ave home, Maria, said she heard five gunshots which “were so loud I thought they were here at the front door”.

“I’d think if someone would do a drive-by they’d do (it with) a silent revolver,” she said.

Evidence of gunshots was visible on the home’s first-floor balcony, a shattered glass pane revealing bullet holes on a sliding glass door behind.

Another neighbour, Vivian Menelaou, said she “only heard two gunshots because I was sleeping and they did wake me up”.

“My husband peeked out the window - about ten minutes later we did see cop cars coming around.”

A short time later firefighters were called to Stuart St in Burwood, where the suspected getaway car – a stolen white 2021 Genesis – was on fire.

A Burwood resident of 20 years, Michael said the car fire outside his home “was quite a shocking surprise”.

After being woken by the sound of a car alarm, Michael said he “saw some flickering light, then I went out on the balcony and saw a car on fire in the middle of the road”.

“It used to be a very quiet street,” he said of the unexpected scene.

“Maybe in the western suburbs somewhere but not here, not Burwood.”

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the flames, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

At the scene of the shooting officers arrived to find the front of the property damaged, with markings damage to the second storey of the building.

Frangieh was not home at the time and there were no reported injuries.

More than two decades ago in 2003, he was convicted in the Parramatta District Court of cocaine supply.
