Former NRL star Curtis Scott has been charged after allegedly fleeing the scene of a drunken crash near his home.

Scott was allegedly over the limit when he crashed his ute into several trees on Kennedy Cres at Bonnet Bay, in Sydney’s south, late on the evening of June 15.

But it was not until Monday – almost six months on – that NSW Police laid charges and he was ordered to face Sutherland Local Court next month.

In a statement, NSW Police said the former Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders centre had been located at a nearby home after the crash and allegedly found to have a blood alcohol reading in the mid-range – which is anywhere between 0.08 and 0.15.

He was arrested and taken to Sutherland Hospital.

On Monday, police issued Scott with a court attendance notice containing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, mid-range drink-driving and negligent driving.

Scott, who is due to face court on January 15, also had his licence suspended.

He has not played rugby league professionally since 2021 and has moved into a career in combat sports, including boxing, most recently as a part of the first bare knuckle boxing event on Australian soil.

Scott is understood to be currently in the United States training with professional boxer Brock Jarvis.

The fresh charges are far from the first run-in Scott has had with NSW Police over the years, having been previously charged with various offences – with similarly varying outcomes.

His first interaction with police resulted in Scott being arrested in the early hours of the morning near the Sydney Cricket Ground in January 2020.

While he was initially charged with six offences, including two counts of assaulting a police officer, all charges were later dropped and a court ultimately awarded him $100,000 in legal costs.

In 2022, Scott was convicted and fined over domestic violence offences committed against his former girlfriend, athlete Tay-Leiha Clark, after being found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and stalking or intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical harm.

In October 2023, Scott was charged with driving while his licence was suspended, ultimately pleading guilty but avoiding conviction.

His career in the NRL ended when he was sacked by the Canberra Raiders in 2021.

Scott has been playing amateur rugby league in recent years, but his prominent focus has been boxing and bare-knuckle fighting.

He has fought in multiple professional bouts and defeated several former footballers, including ex-NRL enforcer Joey Leilua and retired AFL player Barry Hall.

In September, Scott made his bare-knuckle boxing debut, defeating Ricky “The Rat Man” Brown in a heavyweight clash in Logan, Queensland.
