A man who allegedly demanded cash while armed with a meat cleaver and bat, before assaulting a man and woman at a home on the Central Coast, has been charged.

Cody O’Brien, 28, was charged following investigations into an alleged aggravated break and enter at a home on Terrigal Drive, Erina, on Saturday.

Police received reports of a home invasion at about 12.20am and were told an unknown man allegedly broke into the home before assaulting a 37-year-old man and attempting to sexually assault a 38-year-old woman.

O’Brien allegedly fled the scene in a stolen hatchback. The occupants were uninjured.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle abandoned on Hereford Drive, Berkeley Vale, where it was seized for forensic examination.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives from Brisbane Water Police District located and arrested the 28-year-old man on Bryant Drive, Tuggerah, at about 2.15pm on Wednesday afternoon.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – armed, aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent, and steal motor vehicle.

O’Brien did not apply for bail at Wyong Local Court on Thursday. He will be back in court on July 8.
