Detectives investigate spate of late-night shootings across Fairfield area as links to car fires examined

Police believe a towing yard brawl may be connected to an overnight shooting, one of three attacks that erupted across Sydney’s west in the spate of four hours.

Detectives are investigating whether a brawl at a Wetherill Park towing yard last week is connected to a shooting at the same property, one of three attacks that erupted across Sydney’s west in less than four hours.

Police were called to the McIlwraith Street business about 2.50am on Thursday after around 10 bullets were fired into an upstairs office above the towing yard before a black ute left the scene.

The incident came days after an altercation at the same complex on November 14, when an unknown man sustained head and facial injuries believed to have been from a fight between two groups.

He left in a ute before police arrived at the scene, with detectives later establishing a secondary crime scene at the business.

Fairfield City Police Area Commander Craig Middleton said the brawl had become a key focus of investigations.

“Obviously, it will be part of our inquiries whether that has triggered something that was linked to last night,” he said.

A similar-looking dark vehicle was found burning at Kings Langley about 3am, with police examining whether the ute is linked to both the Wetherill Park shooting and another attack in Fairfield.

The first shooting unfolded about 11.15pm Wednesday when up to 17 bullets were fired into a Margaret Street home in Fairfield before a dark ute or SUV sped away.

A man and woman in their 20s were inside but escaped injury. Police say the address is known to them due to incidents involving former tenants.

About 40 minutes later, a single shot was fired into a caravan parked outside a home on Aberdeen Street, Bossley Park before a white Audi was seen driving o

The elderly couple living at the address said they were jolted awake by a “pop”.
They told The Daily Telegraph they “couldn’t sleep all night” and had “no reason” to be targeted.

“They’re very upset and traumatised,” Middleton said.
“As far as we know, they’re innocent people inside that premises.”

Forensic teams examined all three scenes on Thursday as detectives door-knocked surrounding streets. Police believe up to six people may have been involved across the three shootings.“We don’t know the motivations behind any of this,” Middleton said.
