Primary school children crammed into demountables at a Baulkham Hills school in northwest Sydney will have permanent classrooms from this month, as $42m in infrastructure upgrades is completed.

Major upgrades of Matthew Pearce Public School in Baulkham Hills have now been completed, which last year had students learning in 23 demountables. These have now been replaced by 24 new classrooms, three support classrooms, a new hall, bathrooms and after school care facilities.

As a result, the school’s capacity has now doubled from 647 students to 1200. Construction of the school facilities began in late 2023 and are part of a suite of major upgrades to build 600 permanent classrooms in schools across northwest Sydney.

These include classrooms at the new Box Hill Public School and Box Hill High School, as well as upgrades as Rouse Hill High School, Excelsior Public School and the newly completed Castle Hill Public School upgrade.

Premier Chris Minns said the new upgrade was critical to address the backlog of schools infrastructure in northwest Sydney.

“Delivering this school upgrade is part of our long-term plan to rebuild the state’s public education system and provide the vital school infrastructure that’s lacking across The Hills District,” he said

“Matthew Pearce Public School is a fantastic local school for our northwest Sydney families and this upgrade, along with the upgrade at Castle Hill Public School, means more students now have access to a world-class public education close to home.”

Matthew Pearce Public School Principal Gae Bromwich said students and teachers had been able to use the facilities for the start of Term 2.
