Cricket WAG Candice Warner returns to racing in surf life saving’s Summer of Surf

She looks as fit as she did more than a decade ago. Now cricket WAG and surf life saver Candice Warner will test her speed and surf skills in an unexpected return to racing.

Candice Warner looks as strong and fit as she did in her heyday as an ironwoman - and she’s got three little girls to thank for it.

Warner is set for a return to surf life saving racing on Saturday at North Bondi in the Summer of Surf series - surf conditions and cricket’s bio security bubble allowing.

“I can’t wait. I just love the club, love what I’ve been doing and I feel fit and ready,’’ said Warner from the SCG on Thursday where she and her daughters were watching and supporting husband and father David Warner.

“I think looking after three active kids on you own - I credit my girls, having to chase after them all the time, playing cricket with them, bowling and chasing after their sixes, it’s kept me very fit.

“I started back (training at North Bondi surf club) when David went away for an extended period with the IPL and World Cup and then going into quarantine.

“It was three and a half months apart, it was about being on the water, being with adults, having a laugh and doing something for myself.’’

Warner, a mother of three, will race the Summer of Surf series at North Bondi this weekend and then return a week later as a commentator for Channel coverage of the Nutri-Grain iron series at the same beach.

She will race single and double ski events at the carnival with plans to compete in masters competitions at the NSW and Australian championships in upcoming months.

Surf life saving has been a passion of Warner’s since her days as a Sydney Nipper.

Now 36, she joined the professional on series win when just 14 and competed at a high level for more than a decade.

Her return to the sand and surf is part of her fitness regimen and because she loves the environment.

The Summer of Surf rounds at North Bondi are scheduled to run from Friday to Saturday and will be used by many top ironmen and ironwoman as a major workout for the start of the Nutri-Grain series a week laster at North Bondi.

The event has also attracted top swimming and paddling talent, including numerous Olympic kayakers like Riley Fitzsimmons and Lachie Tame who both raced at the Tokyo Games.

Fitzsimmon’s partner Georgia Miller, one of the stars of the ironwoman series, will also be racing at the carnival along with men’s champion Ali Day.
