A toddler has died after being dragged from a dam at a property in the state’s Central West.
Police established a crime scene on the Portland property, just outside of Lithgow, after the two-year-old was pulled from a dam on Tuesday afternoon.
NSW Police confirmed to The Telegraph the child had died after being found in a critical condition and airlifted to Bathurst Hospital, where he later died.
“About 3pm emergency services were called to a property on Pipers Flat Rd, Portland, following reports of a concern for welfare,” a NSW Police representative told The Daily Telegraph.
“Officers ... attended and found a two-year-old boy had been pulled from a dam on the property.
“The boy was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bathurst Hospital in a critical condition.”
A crew of emergency services including police, Fire and Rescue NSW representatives and several paramedics were spotted at the home, just off Pipers Flat Rd in Portland.
Several fire trucks could be seen at the crime scene on Tuesday evening, with Fire and Rescue NSW responders gathering at the front of one of their vehicles.
NSW Police investigators were questioning witnesses at the rural property, where children’s play equipment and bikes were seen scattered across the backyard.
The property had a large cream coloured house with a wired fence around it, and a number of buses and caravans also parked around it.
Police said investigators were undertaking an investigating into the incident.
