A man is in custody following a police operation across the Central Coast on Thursday morning.

Officers were called to Goorama Ave in San Remo shortly before 5am after reports a man armed with a knife was standing in the middle of the road.

Police attempted to arrest the man using a Taser, but he allegedly got into his car and drove at officers, hitting their vehicle.

A police firearm was discharged during the confrontation, but the man fled the scene in a grey Mitsubishi station wagon.

Following a police operation across the Central Coast, a 42-year-old man was arrested on The Corso in Gorokan, just before 7.30am after a Taser was deployed.

He has been taken to John Hunter Hospital for assessment.

A neighbour who called 000 said she heard the commotion and could hear raised voices.

“It’s not something you hear everyday, and I thought, hang on, straight away, I called 000.

“I just met her, she’s up in the house now with some friends. I just said sorry I called the police on you and she goes “no, thank you”.

“We just heard one gunshot. I also heard a loud banging and thought something must have gone up there.

“The street is normally quiet. I’ve been here for nine years, and we’ve never had anything like this. This is one of the first big things that we’ve had.”

The neighbour said she believed the woman had only recently moved into the premises as she had been there for a few months.

“You don’t normally expect something like this, but it’s good the cops are here now keeping her safe, that’s the main thing.”

The woman was earlier taken to hospital for assessment following the alleged domestic violence incident. Her condition and age have not been disclosed.

No other injuries have been reported.

Inquiries are continuing.
