A fire at the Bath Arms Hotel in Sydney’s inner west forced the temporary closure of Parramatta Rd in a westbound direction, causing major traffic disruptions on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene at the intersection of Parramatta and Burwood roads in Burwood just before 6am, as smoke poured from the hotel’s roof.
The fire, which took hold on the second level of the building, was contained by 630am, and Parramatta Rd fully reopened about 7.15am, with delays beginning to ease.
“Parramatta Rd has reopened westbound at Burwood following this building fire, and traffic’s returning to normal,” Live Traffic Sydney posted on X.
NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Adam Dewberry confirmed the fire started in one of the accommodation rooms on the second level, which contains 22 units.
“Fortunately, the fire was contained to one room, and crews managed to extinguish it shortly after their arrival,” Dewberry said.
“Approximately 15 people were evacuated, and there have been no reports of injuries.”
Firefighters have cleared the building of toxic smoke and are working to determine the cause of the fire.
