Sydney’s underworld has exploded in the past three months amid tensions between the Alameddine crime clan and its former “muscle”, the KVT, and an escalation in the city’s “postcode wars”.
Premier Chris Minns has responded to the ongoing violence by reaffirming police resolve and praising their results.
“Well, I put this in perspective, I can’t promise that there isn’t going to be another one of these horrible shootings today, but what I can say is that there’s been 25 organised crime-related murders in NSW since 2021 and 20 of those murders have had arrests as a result of good police work,” Mr Minns said on 2GB.
“The other five are still party to a major investigation, so it’s not empty rhetoric. When the police or the government stand up and say, we’ll put resources to it, we will chase people down, we will make sure we execute arrests — and when we do, the individuals will spend a long time, decades, in tiny prison cells.”
Following the latest incident, which has left three people fighting for life after they were shot outside a kebab shop at Auburn on Monday afternoon, we take a look back at the city’s recent spate of gunfire.
