A Top End crocodile tourism company jumped into action when they spotted a young crocodile, the sadistic victim of a life threatening stunt.
The company knew they had to act swiftly when they spotted the crocodile with cable ties wrapped tightly around its snout.
Staff members from Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruise spotted Jiminy, a juvenile crocodile, struggling against the restraints that would eventually have caused him to starve to death if unaided.
The company called the action “a deliberate and malicious act” that could have cost the crocodile its life.
The crew were able to safely remove the cable ties from the crocodiles snout without incident in what was a difficult 40 minute process.
“Jiminy was clearly very distressed, trying to catch food at the water’s edge and the removal process was unavoidably stressful for both Jiminy and the staff involved in rescuing him,” one crew member said.
“Even with extensive training and experience, handling crocodiles, both in captivity and in the wild, is dangerous for crocodile and human alike and we’re fortunate to have that experience on our team here.”
Any interaction with a wild animal in this way is illegal, with the crew needing a specific permit to interact with crocodiles in the specific way they do.
Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruise operate on the Adelaide River and give tourists and locals alike the chance to see crocs leap from the water up close.
The company said there have been no reports of crocodiles harassing fishing boats in the area.
The incident has been reported to Parks and Wildlife, who this masthead has also contacted for comment.
However, without evidence related to the offenders means to take action is limited, with Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruise urging anyone with information to contact Parks.
