Some of Australia’s biggest names in comedy will be making their way to the Top End next year for the first ever Darwin Comedy Festival.
Celeste Barber, Nazeem Hussain, and Sammy J are just some of the comedians on the exciting line-up of international, national, and local comics that will take to the stage in the inaugural festival bringing laughter and smiles to people of all ages.
The Darwin Comedy Festival will be held in March, the perfect time to draw top comics to the Top End, Darwin Entertainment Centre chief executive officer Georgia Hendy said.
“Having the festival scheduled between the Adelaide Fringe Festival and before the other capital cities kick off their own comedy festivals means we’ve been able to program artists that are on that comedy circuit and may not have considered coming to Darwin,” she said.
“Our audiences deserve premium entertainment, and we can’t wait to deliver.”
Having the festival in Darwin would also give the opportunity for local talent to shine, Ms Hendy said.
“We know that Darwin has a vibrant comedy scene, so we’re really excited to add to the mix with the Darwin Comedy Festival elevating opportunities for locals to appear on the same bill as high-profile artists and celebrating their successes and hard work,” she said.
There will also be a range of family-friendly entertainment at the festival with the award-winning circus and comedy show Children Are Stinky.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Class Clowns will also offer teens the opportunity to practice one-liners with workshops, and a chance to showcase their comedy in a public performance.
More acts are still yet to be announced by the Darwin Entertainment centre in January, but tickets are officially on sale now.
The festival will run from March 6 to March 8 2025.
