Taj Murray, Clay Shadforth among the big Territory hopefuls for the 2025 AFL Draft
An athletic ruckman from Nightcliff is the leading hope for the Territory in this year’s AFL Draft, but there’s a few other names also in the mix. Read who they are.
Nightcliff Tigers junior Taj Murray is the Territory’s leading hope at this year’s AFL Draft, but there’s a few other names including former listed players who are in the mix.
Murray, a 201cm ruckman, has long been touted as one of the top draft prospects following impressive stints for his home club, North Adelaide and the NT Talent Academy at nationals.
AFL talent ambassador Kevin Sheehan listed Murray as one of the top 75 potential draft options earlier this year noting his ability to cover the ground extremely well.
Murray is said to have been interviewed by all 18 clubs offering them a strong option who always competes fiercely and is consistent in how he goes about his craft.
Clay Shadforth grabbed headlines last month as a potential draft bolter after being invited to a private training session with an AFL club, the identity of which has yet to be revealed.
The Waratah junior, who has also played for Nhill Tigers in Country Victoria, impressed scouts with his ability as a small forward and coaches with his hardness at training.
Nhill showcased his talents kicking 22 goals in 16 games including four in the preliminary final against premiers Ararat.
Also among the nominated players are former AFL-listed Territorians Alwyn Davey Jr (Essendon), Lloyd Johnston (Gold Coast Suns) and Wade Derksen (GWS).
All three have since returned to the NTFL, though Derksen revealed at the weekend he was still in talks with a few clubs.
And though their names haven’t been touted among the top prospects, there are chances in the rookie draft.
Alwyn’s cousin Waylon Davey is another one who put his hand up for selection and has impressed in the past with his natural ball skills.
Kim Kantilla, who shocked many with his viral double bounces, put himself forward for nomination, with the Tiwi captain having all the skills to show at the top level.
Other NTFL based nominees include Ethan Bush (St Mary’s), Jordan Clyne (Palmerston), Jack Hewett (Nightcliff) and Yanni Stefanidakis (St Mary’s).
