The next stop on St Mary’s remarkable winning streak will be the grand final after taking down the reigning premiers in style. Watch the full match REPLAY here.

Replay: PINT v St Mary's (Women) - 2024-25 NTFL semi finals

St Marys became the first NTFLW team into the season decider following a dogged win in their semi-final against PINT at TIO Stadium.

The Saints have been a growing force in the women’s premier league for some time and with their winning run now at 16 have put themselves in position to win their first grand final since 2009-10.

Only two points separated the teams at the end of the minor rounds and the semi was a fitting contest for such evenly matched sides but, despite a poor return on goal, Saints prevailed 5.13 (43) to 2.6 (18).

The first quarter began in a scrambly manner with both sides appearing nervous and it took until the eight-minute mark before Saints small forward Nicky Anderson found space at the fall of the ball and booted truly for the first goal of the game.

PINT had their share of the ball during the term but simply failed to convert a major.

PINT ruck Jasmyn Hewett got her hand to the ball on most occasions early in the second and while it usually went to advantage, the forwards couldn’t capitalise, and three minor scores resulted.

However, the Green defenders hung on grimly and finally pushed forward where Lakhyah Hill swooped and goaled.

And when Emily Forshaw repeated the dose a minute later, Saints had scoreboard space. PINT finally got on the board when Casey Morris was awarded a warranted free kick in the square and she duly converted at the 15-minute mark.

A poster by Shakaila Gardiner-Dunn opened the third for Saints and the Queenant defence was immediately under extreme pressure.

But despite an apparent dominance around the ball and time inside their forward 50, Saints just couldn’t convert, and four behinds resulted while PINT was held scoreless for the quarter.

Nadia von Bertouch’s long goal opened the last in the perfect manner for Saints and when Caitlin Sargent’s shot sailed through at the halfway mark of the term it looked curtains for PINT.

A late six-pointer by Rhiley Huppatz was a relief, but too little too late for the reigning premier.

Saints’ utility Ciaralii Parnell played in last seasons losing grand final and is pleased about the chance of finally raising the flag in two weeks’ time.

“I actually started on the bench but then went into the backline and then my coach moved me forward and then back for the rest of the game, so I had a bit of everything which I enjoy,” Parnell said.

“We missed a few goals today which normally we would get and could have won by a lot more, but PINT missed a few too so that probably evened out in the end.

“Not sure what Ryan (Smith) will get us doing during the next two weeks at training – we never know what he has got planned at anytime so this may be something special.

“I played in the grand final last year when PINT beat us by four points but hopefully this one will be different.”

PREVIEW

Two NTFL women’s juggernauts are set for a collision course in a must-watch semi-final at TIO Stadium.

Competition powerhouse PINT will take on St Mary’s, who in Round 16 handed the Queenants their first loss in almost two years, in a rematch of last year’s grand final.

The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of this clash from 2.15pm on Saturday.

The Green Machine, now on its own 15-match winning streak, was well up to that contest hitting the front early and keeping hold as to conquer the previously unbeaten reigning premiers 6.2 (38) to 2.6 (18).

Nadia von Bertouch and Emily Forshaw were among the standouts in that meeting as Saints proved they could finish out a game against the league’s benchmark side.

St Mary’s drew with PINT in last year’s regular season and led them in both the grand final and their Round 3 meet of this season, but fell away late in both to suffer defeat instead.

Now though they have a chance to make it two wins in a row and earn direct entry to the grand final, befitting their winning run that dates back to that third round.

They again showed their prowess against Nightcliff in the qualifier with their ability to keep the Tigers forwards quiet, courtesy of Janet Baird and Nikita Long, most impressive.

PINT are still well in the hunt for their fourth women’s premier league title in five years and, after a week off, will be refreshed for the challenge ahead.

Captain Reni Hicks has had another stellar season in the midfield while Jasmyn Hewett has, as always, been a force to be reckoned with in the ruck contest.

Stella Ajani and Paige Sheppard have been others to put their hands up while they’ve had a few goal scoring options including Steph Lawrence.

But most importantly, as proven by their recent record, this is a side that knows how to play and win finals.

The full match replay will be available at the conclusion of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
