A man has died at the scene of a serious crash on Roper Highway with police saying the road will remain shut as investigations continue.
NT Police informed the public on Friday, October 31, of a serious one-vehicle crash occurring on the road after receiving reports of the incident at 2.35pm.
A member of the public came across a 75-year-old man at the scene, about 1km west of the Minyerri turn-off, who was unresponsive.
They started giving CPR until police and St John Ambulance arrived.
The man, who was the driver of the vehicle, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The other five occupants of the vehicle managed to extract themselves from the wreckage with NT Police saying they sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday morning, police said the road would remain closed in both directions with delays expected to continue until late in the afternoon to allow the Major Crash Investigations Unit to attend and investigations to continue.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The loss of another life follows a devastating few weeks on NT roads taking the total reported road deaths to six since October 17.
The current toll of lives lost on the roads in the Territory this year now stands at 36.
NT emergency services investigating serious Roper Hwy crash
Initial, October 31: NT Police and emergency services are investigating a serious crash that will see parts of the Roper Highway closed overnight.
Emergency services were first informed of the crash about 2.45pm on Friday and are responding to the incident.
The crash took place near the Hodgson River Road turn-off to Minyerri.
Both lanes are currently closed and are expected to remain closed overnight as police urge motorists to avoid the area.
It comes in what has been a horror couple of weeks on NT roads with five road deaths reported since October 17.
The current road toll for 2025 is 35 compared to 53 at this stage last year.
